Marc Boutin

Director of Design Development

Marc founded MBAC in 1997 and currently leads the firm’s Nelson office. As Director of Design Development, Marc supports each of the firm’s projects from conceptualization through to delivery, helping to translate design intentions into programmatic, material, and tectonic strategies for realizing design excellence.  

Marc studied environmental design, architecture, and architectural history at the University of Manitoba, the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Calgary.  He complemented these studies with sculpture studios at the Ontario College of Art and the Emily Carr College of Art and Design. In 1997 he joined the Faculty of Environmental Design at the University of Calgary, where he taught architecture and urban design studios for 25 years. Marc was the Canadian Prix de Rome Winner in 2002, the Director of the Architecture Program at the University of Calgary from 2006 to 2010, inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Art in 2013 and elected as a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada in 2014.

Marc is a Registered Architect in Alberta and British Columbia.
