Calgary Northpointe Transit Shelter

Calgary, AB

Developed as a prototypical model, the Calgary Transit Northpointe Bus Shelter establishes a sense of place through its performance as an illuminated beacon and a recognizable point of gathering for transit users. A simple, cost-effective construction methodology based on a modularization of construction methods and off-the-shelf components with a focus on durability and maintenance drove the design process. Using these parameters, rigorous iterative exploration combined with extensive stakeholder engagement shaped the final form of the building particularized to the Northpointe site.

Anti-graffiti coatings, a high degree of visual permeability, unobstructed sightlines, and increased levels of illumination mitigate on-site safety concerns, while tiled graphic icons representing the building’s programmatic functions combine to form playful, large-scale signage printed on the fiber cement panel skin.
